Interesting, isn't, that an unclean spirit recognizes the Lord, but people cannot. In fact the unclean spirit is the first one in Mark's gospel to proclaim Jesus "The Holy One of God" The people marveled at Jesus's word< liking what and how he taught. They focused on his message. It is easy ti imagine them discussing teaching for days. In fact some folks have been discussing them for two thousand years. The unclean spirit, on the other hand< does not talk about the message of Jesus, but about himself, who he is.
Scientist speak of "anti-matter", the absolute opposite to matter. Contact between matter and anti-matter results in the annihilation of both. The unclean spirit knew that in the presence of Jesus it was faced with its opposite. So, it shrieked, "have you come to destroy us". The spirit knew who Jesus is because in Jesus it saw not teachings, but absolute good. The spirit saw the presence of God. eventually, people recognized who Jesus is. Christians know that he is, indeed, what the unclean spirit proclaimed him to be "The Holy One of God". We follow the unclean spirit in proclaiming God's presence among us in Jesus Christ.
It is not hard to think that I have more in common with an unclean spirit than that. There much in my life that is anti-matter compared to the reality that is Jesus. When I look beyond myself to the Church, I nearly despair. Our track record is not good at all. The terrible weapons that plague our lives were developed in the part of the world with the longest, most intense Christian influence. Some of the world's worst persecutions have been perpetrated by Christians who tortured one another in inquisitions, and went after non-Christians in crusades, forced conversions and the Holocaust. The destruction of the environment God created as a home for all, the creation of economic, social and political system that deprived men and women of their dignity as children of God -- all these can be laid before followers of Christ with the words, "Here are your real children."
Is this cause to give up, to decide that we have so much of the demon about us we should not presume to proclaim Christ? ShoulD we give up doing what the unclean spirit did? The rest of the world is no less soiled and sordid than we. In fact, we can stand as a symbol of the world, know Christ on behalf of the world, and proclaim him for the sake of the world precisely because we are tainted with evil. It is when I recognize how far I am from the goodness of God that I can understand the awesomeness of God's love.
When we confess our sinfulness, we can see its opposite, The Holy One of God. The first step in repentance is to admit our guilt, as when we go to confession. We admit our faults and failures out loud, making them painfully and embarrassingly real to ourselves. Then, we are presented with the sin-overpowering love of God when we most recognize our need of it. And we come to a key difference between ourselves and the unclean spirit. The demon feared; we rejoice because we know that Christ, The Holy One of God, is only our opposite in terms of evil. In terms of love, we are beloved children of God. Therefore we proclaim that The Holy One of God is among us, that there is hope for us in our uncleanness. We proclaim, like the spirit in the gospel, that Jesus is the opposite of our sinfulness.
It might even be proper to say a grateful prayer for that spirit, that it, too, might know Christ not as its enemy, but as the love of God offered to all us unclean ones. perhaps in God's mercy, we and that spirit will one day share the joy of heaven.

面白いことに、汚れた霊は主キリストを認めたが、普段の人々はできなかった。実際、マルコ福音書では、イエスを「神の聖者」とはじめて称えたのはこの汚れた霊です。人々はイエスの言葉に驚いた。彼の教えを好んだ。彼らは、注目していたのは、彼のメッセージであった。我々は簡単に想像できます。おそらく彼らは何日もそれについて論じたでしょう。人は二千年この方イエスのメッセージについてずっと論じてきました。他方、汚れた霊はイエスのメッセージを問題にしません。イエスそのもの、イエスは誰であるかを気にしています。
科学者は「反物質」という概念を使います。（＊）物資と逆の性質をもつものです。物質と反物質が接触すると対消滅を起こし、質量がエネルギーとなって放出される。これは反応前の物質・反物質そのものが完全になくなってしまい、消滅したそれらの質量に相当するエネルギーがそこに残るということである 。
汚れた霊は、イエスの前では自分の逆のもの、正反対のものに直面するとわかっていた。そのため、叫んだ、「我々を滅ぼしに来たのか」。汚れた霊は、メッセージ、教えではなくイエスに善そのものを見ていたから、イエスは誰であるかわかった。後々に人々も、イエスは誰であるかわかってきました。クリスチャンは、まさに、汚れた霊は宣告したとおり、イエスは「神の聖者」だということを知っている。我々クリスチャンは、イエスの中に神の現存があると告げるときに、この汚れた霊に従います。
私たちは、汚れた霊に従うのはそれだけではないでしょう。私たちの生活には、イエスと現実比べれば、反物質のようなもの沢山あると、全く考えにくいことではありません。キリスト教の歴史を見ても、そこに汚れたものが沢山見えてきます。今人類を悩ましている原子爆弾は考え出され、創られたのは、キリスト教と一番なじみ深いところです。人々の生活を脅かしている経済システム、金融システムがつられたのは同じところです。
こういう現実があるから、我々クリスチャンはキリストを告げることをやめるべきでしょうか。我々には悪魔的なものがそれほどあるから、キリストを告げる資格はなくなったでしょうか。汚れた霊はなしたことを、我々はやめるべきなのか。
けれども、キリスト教となじみの薄い世界はそれほど奇麗だというわけではない。非キリスト教世界でも汚（きたな）いもの、汚れたものはいっぱいあります。だったら、我々クリスチャンは、世界の代表者、世界のシンボルとして立ち上がることはできると思います。世界に代わって、世界の救いのために、我々はキリストを知り、キリストを告げることはできる。神の善から遠ざかっていると認めるときこそ、我々は神の愛の素晴らしさがわかってきます。
我々の罪深さを告白するとき、その正反対、その逆のもの「神の聖者」を見ることができます。悔い改めの最初のステップは、許しの秘跡に預かるときのように、我々の責任を認めることです。声に出して、自分の失敗、不忠実を認めて、それらを苦しく、恥をかきながらリアルのものとして自分の前におくと。それから、罪を超える力を持った神の愛をいただくのです。そのようなときに、我々は神の愛なしには生きていけないということが一番わかります。こうして、我々と汚れた霊との間は肝心な違いに気づきます。悪魔が恐れた（滅ぼしに来たのか）。我々は喜ぶ。神の聖者キリストは我々と正反対であるのは、悪に対してだけであったとわかるようになったから。愛に関しては、我々は愛された神の子であると。従って、我々は我々の間におられる神の聖者を告げます。我々の穢れにもかかわらず、我々の汚れの只中に希望があります。汚れた霊のように、我々も、イエスは我々の罪深さの正反対だと告げます。
感謝をこめてその汚れた霊のために祈りをささげるのもよいでしょう。彼もイエスを、敵としてではなく、我々汚れた者すべてに与えられた神の愛として知ることができるように。
